Before I cut and paste the list, just wanted to let you know I may be out of posting range for a few weeks. off on the Cochrane's annual holiday!

Some historical resource:

Contemporary to the time: Pictures, books, plays, poetry, paintings, artefacts, photographs, newspapers, church magazines, films, postcards.

Museums specialising in or stately homes/houses/churches dating from the era, especially those which have a ‘living history’ element.

TV documentaries, well researched historical dramas/docudramas.

The Max Arthur series of books containing soldiers’/sailors’/airmen’s recollections of twentieth century wars. (Or any books of contemporary letters.)

These are very useful links. Even if I'm not writing anything historical, they're still good for surfing (I tried one website - etymonline.com - and had fun this afternoon. :D)

Fantastic stuff. Makes me want to write something Victorian rather than my bloody awkward Scythians [who are rapidly approaching relegation to a fantasy world].

Have a WONDERFUL holiday and I hope the flights are smooth and the stewards dolly!

We're lucky here in the UK that we can still get into many of the historical environments, like old houses, old ships etc. (I only properly appreciated how cramped it is aboard an age of sail ship when I toured the Victory a few weeks ago.) We've got a great "living history" resource near where I live in the form of Beamish Open Air museum. I should have a day out there.

Absolutely. I got completely knocked out by the Victory as a child and never cease to be impressed by the old girl.

Haven't been to beamish - must add it to the list of places to go.

Beamish is great. Going for the first time in years this October (after Connotations), and shall report back on what's changed.
