First business: nice review of Lessons in Love at Dear Author.

Now pleasure: we had lunch at the Savoy on Friday (works' do, the Cochrane budget runs more to the Abbey Hotel, Romsey). Highlight of the day was a tour of the building, guided by one of the chaps who acts as butler for the suites. he looked just like someone from the 1930's, slicked back hair and well cut suit. *sigh*

We went round all the public rooms, such as the American bar and the Beaufort bar (am saving up to go and have drinkies there) then we were shown some of the bedrooms, which are either art deco or Edwardian themed. Saw the Monet room, themed on the artist, who painted some of his views of London at the hotel. Then our host allowed us to spend a few minutes in the royal suite (I kid you not, the floor space was almost as big as our entire house). Wish I had a study like the one in there - and such a view, along the Thames.

As if that wasn't highlight enough, I got to stroke Kaspar (no, that wasn't our guide), who's usually in the hotel safe but happened to be out on display.

If that doesn't encourage plot bunnies ...

Congratulations on the review. I read Lessons in Discovery last night, so I'm slowly catching up.

I'm very envious of your Savoy trip. We had afternoon tea there, but the only room I saw was the tiny one I stayed in. It was so tiny that when I ordered breakfast they had trouble getting the trolley past the TV cabinet to where the chair was. Mind you, the trolley was slight overkill for Eggs Benedict and a pot of coffee.

I didn't see Kaspar either :-(

oh excellent review - and typical of you to be so quiet about it. Well deserved.

I saw a tv programme about the Savoy recently. The butlers made quite an impression! I don't remember seeing Kaspar though, what a lovely story.

Oh and congrats on the review :)

I'd never heard about Kaspar, although my father stayed at the Savoy many years ago for his work. I'd be tempted to book a party of 13 just for the fun of it!

Congratulations on the review. I got given a hardcopy of Lessons in Love for Christmas so I've been rereading it and enjoying it just as much second time around - maybe more so. I do so love Jonty and Orlando *grins* but you knew that already. :)
