First business: nice review of Lessons in Love at Dear Author.

Now pleasure: we had lunch at the Savoy on Friday (works' do, the Cochrane budget runs more to the Abbey Hotel, Romsey). Highlight of the day was a tour of the building, guided by one of the chaps who acts as butler for the suites. he looked just like someone from the 1930's, slicked back hair and well cut suit. *sigh*

We went round all the public rooms, such as the American bar and the Beaufort bar (am saving up to go and have drinkies there) then we were shown some of the bedrooms, which are either art deco or Edwardian themed. Saw the Monet room, themed on the artist, who painted some of his views of London at the hotel. Then our host allowed us to spend a few minutes in the royal suite (I kid you not, the floor space was almost as big as our entire house). Wish I had a study like the one in there - and such a view, along the Thames.

As if that wasn't highlight enough, I got to stroke Kaspar (no, that wasn't our guide), who's usually in the hotel safe but happened to be out on display.
