Uk Meet 2012 Placeholder notice of a forthcoming call for submissions.

Following the success of Tea & Crumpet, we’ll be having another tie-in anthology for the 2012 UK Meet of those who love GLBTQ fiction. Working title is “Lashings of sauce”, with a general theme of celebrating difference – different strokes for our different folks.

It will be open to anyone attending the event, whether already published or not. So if any readers or reviewers have an inner author itching to get out, this is a time to unleash them. Some of our most popular stories from last time came from “newbies”. Inner editors will be welcome, too!

What should you do now? Get your ideas together, start crafting that story. Think if you can volunteer to edit or proof. What should you not do? Send us anything just yet! A full set of guidelines will come out in due course – that’ll be the time to press “send” on a story or an offer of help.

Feel free to repost.

You know what Charlie? That sounds so tempting.....Maybe I should try translating one of my shorts? *gnaws on fingers* Or maybe not. Just thinking the thought makes me run for the bathroom.

You should translate one of them - there are always opportunities for short stories to find a home, not just this. *hugs*

My tummy says NO NO NO. I have to......sort of decide to be a writer first, not just someone who fiddles around with words. I know I'm not Shakespeare but then again I know I'm better than some of the guys who have self published books out there for sale. (I know because I have wasted time and money on it) The lack of someone who can tell me if I'm getting somewhere is a big hold back though. I wish there could be a GLBT writing group in Norway. Sadly we're a small country with small minds when it comes to anything that's not mainstream. *sigh*

One thing you could do is to send someone you trust to be honest/constructive a snippet of your work and see what they say.

I cut my teeth in fanfic which was a great way to develop writing skills.

*LOL* A snippet without the smexy part you mean? I could probably manage that.

I'm really wanting to go to the next UK Meet. Where, when is it?

[identity profile] charliecochrane.livejournal.com 2011-11-13 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Next September. We're just firming up the venue so keep an eye out here (or the other places we hang out, like facebook) for information.

Isn't it just? And, oh look, one of the 'newbies' who was SUCH A STAR OF LAST YEAR'S ANTHOLOGIES!

*giggles and curls up pinkly* count me in as a volunteer for just about anything - I do a very good gentle beta with foot massage. :)

Ooh. Maybe you'd like to try your hand at a gentle edit or two?

[identity profile] stevie-carroll.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent stuff!

I should have my current round of short stories all submitted by mid-January, then I can start thinking about all my other plot bunnies and NiNoEs (novels-in-need-of-editing) again.

Although I also have at least two stories in need of tidying up and submitting to magazines as well...

Magic. We might be nabbing you for panels, too.

Panels are good...

Hello ... I'd fancied last years meet but a pesky overseas move sort of got in the way. I'm wondering if as I no longer actually live in the Uk anymore whether I'd be eligible to attend/participate?

(I would have to investigate further once date/place of meet confirmed to see if can get there!)

[identity profile] charliecochrane.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
The UK is the location rather than the qualification, if that makes sense. We had a ahndful of non-UK based peeps last year and would hope to have some this. We're trying to make sure the location works for people coming from abroad.

Does that help?

[identity profile] rebecca-cohen.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, thanks.

Once I know where is it I'll be able to figure it out if it is feasable - I'll keep an eye out for announcements :D

Exciting news!

My inner foodie is now trying to wrestle my muse over a kitchen table... I think I'm going to have some good dreams tonight!

[identity profile] sandra-lindsey.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly not :-( But I didn't have bad dreams either, so I'm going to take that as a win :-)

Ooh yes please!

I would love to write a story for this. I have an idea already.

I could proofread too.

I was at the 2011 meet under my other writing name of Rory Auden :-)

Magic. Get that idea worked up and remember to come back to us when we put out the "help" plea!
